Work Without Opus 18
Work Without Opus 18
This is a short piano waltz I composed for Mother's Day of 2023. The F minor first theme, simple and Chopin-esque in character is gently introduced, and the second theme in the relative major A-flat major adds a layer of humour with its comedic ornaments. After the exposition’s repeat, there is a steady increase of difficulty as new keys are explored in the development, perhaps akin to the increasing challenges of raising a child as they venture through puberty. From m. 62, we are launched into a rapid firing of octaves down into the tempestuous coda, where the child, vehemently recalcitrant, drives the mother into a fit of fury.
